I’ve made it back to Asia and what a way to start my journey to this huge continent than in the Philippines. Landing in the capital of Manila is certainly a change from my last trip, Manila is very VERY busy. I had to head out of the city and made my way straight for the mesmerising rice terraces of Banaue.
Built over 2,000 years ago by the indigeeous population, the Ifugao people, they are expertly stepped rice terraces. Each layer holds a different area for growing rice and are still used to this day. The Ifugao people have an amazing culture and one to research further. For example they hand make elaborate wooden scooters for an annual race held in Banaue each year where drivers hurtle down the hillside at breakneck speeds...without brakes!.
